Multi-Sports Facility being Proposed
Check out the following images for the proposed new multi-sports facility that is looking to be developed on the old rugby pitch site in the Falkland Islands. We have discussed this further on our blog post "A New Beginning for Sport". Exciting times ahead for sport in the Falkland Islands.
Our little hero Harry is delighted with his custom Captain America shirt designed by our shirt suppliers LAGA Sports. Harry is currently in America receiving medical treatment and is on the road to recovery. We are so pleased to hear that Harry is on the mend and felt the little chap deserved his very own custom LAGA Sports ball hockey shirt with the design as Captain America is favourite super hero. The smile from Harry was worth every effort to make this happen for him. Enjoy the shirt little man and all the ice hockey you are getting to watch and look forward to seeing you back in the Falkland Islands. #helpforharry #smileforharry
Due to an incident before tonight's game it has been decided by coaches to ensure the following happens before each game:
1. Referee ensures no player enters the floor from both teams or other kids who are not playing
2. Coaches to ensure their teams are lined up by the door before the start of the game with them wearing all necessary equipment
3. Referee will then let each team enter the floor when they are happy with the safety of all teams
4. Each team will then be expected to move to their chosen bench and await instructions from coaches
5. Coaches then have 5 minutes warm up IN THEIR HALF before the game starts.
6. Referee will prevent others entering the floor which will include other non playing children, spectator and parents. (This is for every ones safety)
7. Referee will then blow whistle for 5 minutes warm up over
8. Referee will blow whistle again to being the game
An order for equipment is being placed tonight with our supplier and if all goes according to plan we should have items within 2 weeks.
We understand parents concerns at players not playing with helmets and our only answer is if you are concerned then we advise that your child DOES NOT play without the necessary equipment.

Falklands Xtreme Sports had the pleasure of hosting 3 students, Mauricio Giraudo Caberea from Uruguay who lives in a small city in Uruguay called Colonia del Sacramento. He is studying a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business at Universidad de Montevideo. At the same time due to the University of London International Programme, he studies from Uruguay for a BSc in Business and Management of the London School of Economics. Marco Franceschini who lives in Brazil is studying for a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Florianopolis and Hristo Gomez (from Chile who is studying a Bachelor of Education with the mention of English and Pedagogy in English at the Metropolitan University of Education Sciences
They were able to take part in the Dynasafe BACTEC Xtreme Cup playing for the Walker Creek Warriors. All 3 lads really enjoyed the ball hockey game with Mauricio stating that they do not play this kind of hockey in Uruguay due to no indoor arenas catering for it with field hockey being more popular. Chatting with Mauricio at the end of the game in relation to ISBHF membership he was very keen to assist in anyway to get the sport up and running in Uruguay.
Pictured above Hristo on the far left, Marco, Mauricio with players from the Walker Creek Warriors in red and the Goose Green Cavaliers in green. Unfortunately the Walker Creek Warriors lost 3-1 but the lads showed some good ball hockey skills in the short time they played and were unlucky not to get onto the score sheet.
FIOGA AGM 21st February 2018 - HIGHLIGHTS

Building will span 70m and be 40m wide leaving room for any potential future developments.
Plans provided included a new rink that will accommodate ball hockey and will include benches for teams and possibly penalty benches with the rink having rounded ends to ensure flow of ball hockey games, size is to be roughly 30mx40m. This will not be a rub design but a steel framed building with insulated solid panels for better durability and stability.
Other areas will look to include basketball, netball, tennis, shooting and archery to name but a few. Outside area will look to accommodate new football pitch and possible running track.
2. Fundraising and Distribution
Discussions were had in relation to how sports clubs could communicate further in relation to fundraising with some members stating FIOGA events to fund raise for all clubs for example going to Islands Games or Commonwealth Games. Clubs of course are entitled to fund raise via their own methods. Members also discussed a calendar of events to help all clubs raising funds to ensure events did not clash.
Falklands Xtreme Sports made members and the Chairman aware of the 2019 World Championships in Kosice Slovakia and that a presentation "The Road Ahead" will be undertaken on 24th February, 6:00pm at 5 Mink Park with players. Dates are to be confirmed but it is assumed that it will be from 1st-10th June 2019 as per other tournaments. PLZEN FUNDING UPDATE
We have been kindly donated £500 from SAAS to utilise as funds for the the Plzen Challenge Cup in Czech Republic as we see fit. Big thumbs up to SAAS for their kind donation and their continued support to Falklands Xtreme Sports.
We at Falklands Xtreme Sports are pleased to announce that the Argos Award sponsored by the Argos Group Ltd haven kindly donated £2,920 to the club. This is a fantastic contribution and will assist with sending a team to the Pilsen Cup in February 2018.
Thank you to the Argos Group Ltd for this fantastic donation your support is greatly appreciated.
Thank you to Stevie and Laura Bennett for the kind donation of one Sports HD DV Water resistant camera and all the attachments as well as extension pole. With this camera we can record ball hockey games in a variety of action shots. We will have this camera up and running during Thursdays adult game and then with all other games after that. We will be looking at attaching it to players helmets as well as the goalie to get a view from their perspective.
Awesome stuff Bennett family this is greatly appreciated :)
We are pleased to announce that the Stanley Leisure Center has agreed to allow Falklands Xtreme Sports to utilise changing rooms on game days for our ball hockey teams. Mark Cook, Leisure Centre Manager, has stated they will also provide a clip frame on each door for us to add our team crests into on game day. This is excellent news as it will now provide a professional approach to ball hockey and a great step forward for the teams, Captains and Coaches.
More time slots are also being looked at as we understand the issues with waiting so long for games to arrive. Hopefully we can acquire something that will appease players and shorten the time between games.
Finally could players please ensure that they prevent from smacking sticks on the floor during goal celebrations and through loss of a goal. The floor is becoming damaged because of it and the Leisure Centre would like to ensure its life span is prolonged.
We are currently working closely with the Leisure Centre manager in relation to acquiring the changing rooms for ball hockey games. Our plan is to have teams on the night utiising their own changing room and will give it a professional feel with them feeling like they are part of team. This will be for both Junior and Adult teams.
Team crests will be put up on each changing room so that players know where to go. We are hoping to have music installed into the dressing rooms to add to the whole experience.
Not only will this help players it will also be a massive positive for coaches as they can undertake team talks with their team without the opposition listening in :)
Update will be provided as soon as we have the go ahead with this.
Thank you to the Falkland Islands Company (FIC) Ltd for donating £500 to Falklands Xtreme Sports. These funds were utilised from the recent charge on plastic carrier bags. Awesome news and this money will be put towards ordering further junior goalie equipment and some goalie items for the adults.
We cant thank FIC enough for their continued support.
