Have you been naughty or nice??
It's as if one Christmas goes and another follows suit as quick as that! It must be an age thing, knowing with each Christmas another year added and for me, another closer to forty :( But I do love Christmas and how it brings out the happiness in everyone (well most), the jolly music, presents, the smiles on my children's faces and of course the food......that after all is the main reason for Christmas....right??
Its nice to see that the community will be able to enjoy a large Christmas tree standing in the centre of Whale Bone Arch, maybe all those requests to Santa for the Falkland Islands Government to engage more with Christmas has paid off, maybe next year I will get me wish to see the Whale Bone Arch lit up with coloured lights. Thumbs up to the Power Station chaps for putting the tree up and I know I have two little people who are going to thoroughly enjoy seeing it, so credit where credit is due FIG :) The nice thing its being put up in December and not sodding well November!!
It will soon be a much needed break for our players so they can enjoy the festivities and forget about ball hockey for a few weeks. The last senior game will be played on Thursday 21st December and the last Junior Game will be on 17th December. The season then restarts again on Thursday 4th January for senior players and 7th January for Junior players. So please make sure you make a note of these end and start dates and for further information check out our fixtures pages on our website.
As you would have seen on the main page of our website the countdown timer has changed and we now have the countdown for the ISBHF 2019 World Championships to look towards. The Pilsen Challenge Cup was just too soon for the Falkland Islands senior ball hockey players and so therefore we had to pull out of attending. But this should not dampen the spirits as remember we are only into our second year of ball hockey in the Islands so to even have an invite to an international tournament is testament to our players and what we have achieved in such a short time. The ISBHF have been in constant dialogue with us and have recently received our development report highlighting our current situation and our future aspirations. Check out this report in the download section of our website.
So with Christmas looming this can only mean one thing, RAFT RACE day is upon us! We have been advertising the event that you will all know by now is on New Year's Day which this time around falls on a Monday. Plans are arranged and the final bits are being sorted to ensure that this day is just as good as the previous. Military teams are entering this year which will be brilliant and provide the much needed competition for the local rafters.....but don't be like those chaps above who if you remember arrived by tow to the finish line on what appeared to be the only part of the raft left! We have inside information that the design has improved greatly and has been in the planning and development stage for some months.....we shall see on the day :)
If you require information on the event then check out our dedicated page on our website and also all updates on our Facebook page. Please come along and support the rafters on the day and enjoy the fun events at the Narrows Bar. We are hoping for sun and lots of it, fingers crossed. We are pleased to say that Zim Harmonies will be making an appearance on the day.
Junior players and parents will also be pleased to know that extra shirts have been ordered for the new players along with those personalised shirt order requests. LAGA Sports have sent through the details and after this evening the shirts will be in the development stage and should be completed by January and arriving it would seem at the end of January as we have to take into consideration the Christmas break. The much needed elves at LAGA Sports need a break too :) We will be taking further orders in the new year so please feel free to contact us now on email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be happy to meet your requested needs. It will be great to see all of our team shirts being worn by fans throughout the community and will go a long way to help publicise Falklands Xtreme Sports and those sponsors who have helped to support and turn this dream into reality.
We are taking orders for equipment and if you have been on our Facebook page you would have noticed the posts on the new D-Gel pads for senior players and the junior helmets in a variety of colours. We are happy to take orders from players and parents and can help in meeting your needs. We will take all the stress out of ordering and payment via our PayPal account with you receiving an invoice locally. We are also pleased to state that any equipment ordered will be at retail price and with of course the shipping cost, there will be no other costs related to the items. Our supplier www.thehockeyshop.com has been working hard to get back to normal after a fire in their shop.
Its been a cracking 2017 for us with so many positives to take from it such as CBHA coaches Gary Slavin and Dave Weloy coming to the Island to coach our players, the growth of our junior and senior leagues, increased support from sponsors FIC, SAAS, Shackleton Scholarship Fund, Saddle Direct, Templars Medical, Falklands Xtreme Adventures, Terry's UPVC Doors and Windows, Fitzroy Social Club, Dynsafe Ltd, FIOGA, The Globe Tavern Hotel and the Argos Award sponsored by the Argos Group Ltd.
The support and help we have received from players, the Bennett family and parents for scoring games, junior coaches and those players Tom Busbridge and Kyran Evans who have worked tirelessly to fundraise and not forgetting Mari-ann who continues to help and assist from afar :)
So thank you one and all for your continued support, long may it continue into 2018.
Time for my NCIS fix and some mince pies to get myself into the Christmas mood. Merry Christmas one and all and a Happy New Year!
