Youth of the Nation :)
The Junior ball hockey shirt unveiling during an Infant and Junior School presentation went down extremely well with children wooping, oooing and aaaing at the shirts and the ISBHF 2017 World Championships video. Wows were heard as they watched the highlights of the adult ball hockey games from the worlds and with a big cheer for the image of the flames welcoming the teams in. I think we have well and truly inspired a school to take up ball hockey, the hands going up was a dead give away :)
6 budding models enthusiastically and proudly walked out to shout out the name of their team and lined up to show off the new shirts to onlooking children, parents and sponsors. It has to be said 10 years presenting and training adults but this was the most nervous I had been! Take my hat off to teachers who teach our little bundles of joy, it must not only be especially difficult at times but extremely rewarding. We at Falklands Xtreme Sports were particularly taken aback by the enthusiasm and the general excitement to not only ball hockey but our club in general. It must be noted that we would not be at this stage if it was not for the passion, enthusiasm and hard work of Mari-ann Clarke who single-handedly organised, trained, developed and promoted ball hockey and Falkland Xtreme Sports to those children in the Infant and Junior School. Then of course the sponsors who have provided the much needed funds to purchase the shirts and made this all possible. Our sponsors have been terrific throughout the clubs short history by supporting not only the juniors but the adult shirts as well, so hats off to them.

So what now for junior hockey? Well we look to the coach visit by Gary Slavin and Dave Weloy from 19th August - 2nd September for all our junior players. They will be put through their paces and be able to obtain development opportunities from two renowned coaches in the world of ball hockey. It was pleasing to see the Penguin News providing the club and sport of ball hockey with some free advertising and mentioning a few statistics and goals for the club. It was a really interesting article discussing the Shackleton Scholarship Funds Quality of Life Applications and really highlighted the importance of the fund and what it is bringing to not only the youth of the Falklands but to the older generation as well. Dare I get involved with bag pipe lessons?? So Shackleton Scholarship Fund, your members both local and in the UK we cannot thank you enough for your kind donation and support of our club.
Then after the coaches have jetted back to Canada the Junior league will then begin the day after on 3rd September. We are planning to have the local media available at this event and of course all junior players and their parents, sponsors, IJS and all other supporters/individuals that have helped to get us where we are today.
So the flights are booked, the coaches itinerary sorted, junior goalie equipment posted, adult Spartan shirts soon to be completed and posted, budget up to date.....all that's left is letters to all junior and adult players, parents and sponsors. A few things left to book and organise during the time the coaches are down but everything has fallen into place.
Also it is pleasing to see that the hits and visits are still high and with the new season close I would say it will only increase further.
So it leaves me to say.....
