Pick n Mix - Its Draft time
Its that time of year again, draft time. This time around things are different with Captains now selected for each team who will then attend the official draft evening and make their picks live in front of all the onlookers. Okay we are not by all means the NHL here or anything as massive as that, but damn we are going to do our best to promote Falklands Xtreme Sports as a professional, albeit amateur league. So we are going out all guns this year to follow the format much like NHL and the NFL draft. We feel this will raise our profile further within the Islands as hopefully people and players will tune into the live feed on twitter and Facebook. If all goes well we will have a live video feed on the Facebook page.....hopefully. We value our players and we want them to feel some form of celebrity status and hope this goes a way to doing that, we hope our ISBHF members will be watching on the night and enjoy our little show piece.
Players are welcome to come along and watch the pick live at 5 Mink Park from 6:00pm onwards with nibbles being provided. Bring your own poison to the event. An area will be set up to allow people to sit down and watch the draft pick unfold. But if you do come along you will not be allowed to speak as the draft is being undertaken.
Captains are as follows:
Goose Green Cavaliers (FIC): Marc Tibble
Sprint Point Spartans (Falklands Xtreme Adventures): Ian France
Hill Cove Hurricanes (Terry's UPVC Doors and Windows): Kyran Evans
Port Howard Patriots (SATLAN): David Phillps
Walker Creek Warriors (Saddle Direct): Chris Biggs
We had 2 very excited little people the other day as our shipment of LAGA Sports junior hockey shirts turned up. They just had to model each shirt so we posted them on Facebook for one and all to see. We are over the moon with the final product and must thank the Falkland Islands Company, Templars Medical, Fitzroy Social Club, South Atlantic Trading, Saddle Direct and Falklands Xtreme Adventures for sponsoring them. We are working on arranging a time with the Infant and Junior School to be able to officially unveil them to all the children, teachers and parents. Hopefully we can have our sponsors attend this session as well. We will also be mentioning the coaches visit and what they will be doing whilst they are here in the Islands. We have a feeling that we may get more little people interested in playing once they see the shirts.
Currently we are in fundraising mode as we look to raise the extra funds required to bring the coaches to the Islands. Thanks to the Falkland Islands Company for providing accommodation free of charge for coaches during their visit. You will notice that we have an event scheduled for 8th July a Winter Onesie Party. So get looking in the cupboard for your onesie and head on down to the Globe Tavern at 9:00pm, £4.00 on the door. We are also looking to organise a party for the little ones with Mari-ann Clarke working on making the arrangements for this.
There is also constant dialogue with the ISBHF board members and have officially received a formal invitation from the ISBHF to attend the Junior World Championships in 2018, Czech Republic. The venue is to be confirmed, with the board in discussions with two towns. The ISBHF marketing legend that is Colin Gennoe has been in contact and amazed at what we have achieved in such a short time. He was sending nothing but praise towards our efforts and the project that we have underway here in the Islands and was pleased to hear that the coverage of the ISBHF 2017 World Championships has helped further players join our league enabling the increase to 5 adult teams. Colin is doing everything he can to help us raise our profile and has stated that he will help to ensure the coaches visit is sent worldwide in links with the CBHA. He stated that we are a fantastic bench mark for other growing nations as well as any potential new members to show what can be achieved in a short space of time. So take a bow everyone involved you all deserve this as without you all it wouldn't be possible.
Also do not forget that our website domain name has now changed to www.falklandsxtreme.com but can still be visited via the doodlekit link. You may notice a shiny new countdown timer counting down to the start of the ball hockey season....its getting closer!
Right time to dust of the tuxedo for the draft pick, shave and haircut will also be required :) I just hope that one of our Captains Marc Tibble can see over the podium!
