And we're off!
3 games, 180 minutes, 79 goals and 6 sin bin minutes, quite some start to the FIC Xtreme Trophy!
Its been great to see all the new faces enjoying ball hockey and I do believe all the players are enjoying the fact the larger regulation goals provide more scoring opportunities for them. As a ref it is very hard to keep up with the fast paced game and the sheer amount of goals, clashes and plays going on. To counter some of the high scoring we will be introducing the offside rule using the halfway line as the 'blue line', check out the ISBHF rule book number 450 in the download section for full explanation. Goal hanging will also be clamped down on as players start to be penalised for standing on the goalie preventing them from making a save. Hopefully with these new rules it will make for a much fairer and more challenging game.
Shirts should be here in 3 weeks with LAGA sports currently in the production stage, so watch this space.
The Peewee and Junior club within the Infant and Junior School has been organised and arranged for 28th September, fantastic effort by Mari-ann Clarke for sorting this out, with 80+ children to accommodate! The IJS have been fantastic in supporting our link with them and as a club we will be providing coaching and training for them all and will look to raise the much needed funds for their new equipment and shirts. Looking forward to helping out at some stage. Our youth league that will be out of school hours is to start in February and go through to March, longer if court times can be booked. Fundraising is to take place and teams to be organised.
Busy and exciting times ahead, lots of planning and organising but in the mean time I need to go and enjoy a relaxing lavender and water lily Radox bath! The old bones are getting used to diving around in goal again :)
